Registration

  1. Public entry is on ballot basis while Family Run and Youth Dash entry is on first-come, first-served basis.
  2. The Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association Limited (“the Organiser”) reserves the right to close entry before the deadline without prior notice once the quota is full.

Entry Requirements

  1. Marathon participants must be 20 years old or above as of 2019 (born in 1999 or before).
  2. Applications MUST have successfully completed at least one race (10KM or longer distance) in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon or any local / overseas races in the past 3 years.
  3. Applicants are required to provide factually the Finishing Time of any races participated in the past 3 years upon registration, which will be one of the criteria for the Organiser to allocate the race and start time for participants.
  1. Half Marathon participants must be 16 years old or above as of 2019 (born in 2003 or before).
  2. Applicants are also required to provide their Estimated Finishing Time factually during application, which will be one of the criteria for the Organiser to allocate the race and start time for participants.
  1. Wheelchair Race participants must be 16 years old or above as of 2019 (born in 2003 or before)
  2. Upon registration, participants must submit a) a registration card for persons with disabilities or b) a medical certificate issued by specialist or c) a proof issued by the government to prove their physical disabilities to the Organiser.
  3. The wheelchairs to be used for the race must meet the Requirements & Regulations set for this category listed below.
  1. Runners aged from 10-15 may apply for Youth Dash (born in 2004 – 2009)
  1. 2-4 runners form a team. Participants aged below 18 (born in 2001 or later) must be accompanied by an adult who is aged 18 or above (born in 2000 or before). The Organiser has the right to verify and request for verification the age of participants before, during and after the run.
  • 1KM Family Run – participants must be aged 6 or above (born in 2012 or before), each team should have at least one adult aged 18 or above (born in 2000 or before)
  • 400M Love from Past Life Run – at least one participant aged 5 or below (born in 2013 or later), accompanied by at least one adult aged 18 or above (born in 2000 or before)

Wheelchair Requirements and Regulations for the Wheelchair Races

  1. The wheelchair shall have two (2) large wheels and one (1) small wheel in the front (applicable for 10KM Wheelchair Race only).
  2. No part of the body of the chair may extend forwards beyond the hub of the front wheel and be wider than the inside of the hubs of the two rear wheels. The maximum height from the ground of the main body of the chair shall be 50cm (applicable for 10KM Wheelchair Race only).
  3. No part of the wheelchair may protrude behind the vertical plane of the back edge of the rear tyres (applicable for 10KM Wheelchair Race only).
  4. The maximum diameter of the large wheel including the inflated tyre shall not exceed 70cm. The maximum diameter of the small wheel including the inflated tire shall not exceed 50cm (applicable for 10KM Wheelchair Race only).
  5. Only one plain, round, push-rim is allowed for each large wheel. This rule may be waived for persons requiring a single arm drive chair (applicable for 10KM Wheelchair Race only).
  6. No mechanical gears or levers shall be allowed, that may propel the chair.
  7. Only hand-operated, mechanical steering devices will be allowed.
  8. The participant must be able to turn the front wheel(s) manually both to the left and the right.
  9. The use of mirrors is not permitted during the race.
  10. The wearing of a race helmet is compulsory.
  11. Wheelchairs will be measured and inspected prior to the start of the race at the assembly area and wheelchair participants will be escorted to the starting area by the race officials. Wheelchairs can be re-examined by the officials before or after the event.
  12. Participants must ensure that no part of their lower limbs can fall to the ground or track during the event.
  13. It is the responsibility of the participant to ensure that their wheelchair conforms to the requirements stipulated above. The events shall not be delayed while a participant makes adjustments to their wheelchair.
  14. Participants must take the safety of other participants on the route into consideration.
  15. The appointed Technical Officials shall rule on the safety of the wheelchair and the participant using it.

Certificates

  1. E-Certificates of Achievement will be issued to participants who finish the race within the designated time limit of their category (Official Time).
  2. Progress Award certificates will be issued to participants with faster time (Net Time) comparing with the same race they completed in Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2018 (not applicable for Youth Dash and Family Run).
  3. Family Run is a non-competitive fun run. No Results and Awards will be provided for the participants.

Official Competition Rules

  1. Entries, bibs and timing chips are non-transferable. Violation will result in disqualification and no refund of entry fee will be entertained.
  2. The Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association Limited (“the Organiser”) reserves the right to disqualify, exclude any person from the race and to take disciplinary action to applicants who provide incorrect personal data/details on the entry form, including those who have been banned from competitions under the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) jurisdiction, or who have been suspected of having taken banned substances. No refund of entry fee will be entertained under any circumstance.
  3. Participants are not allowed to enter the race course with infants, children aged below 16 (not applicable to Family Run) or any participant who do not wear the valid bib of Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2019. Those who violate this rule will be asked to leave the course immediately.
  4. Participants will be disqualified if they do not start at the designated race category and start time assigned by the Organiser. No result and certificate will be issued to those participants.
  1. No pets or any form of wheel-run objects of transport, e.g. wheelchairs (except in the Wheelchair Races, the wheelchairs approved by the Organiser), bicycles, skates, trolleys, shoes with built-in or attached rollers, etc, are allowed on the course.
  2. Dangerous goods (i.e. offensive weapons, flammable, explosive agents or materials/objects which obstruct other participants, etc) are strictly prohibited. Those who violate this rule will be asked to leave the course immediately and such cases might be reported to the Law Enforcement Agency.
  3. Participants must retire and leave the race course immediately, if requested to do so by any member of the race officials, medical staff, race director, referees or security staff.
  4. In accordance with the IAAF Competition Rule 144, the Organiser reserves the right to disqualify any participant who has proven to have received assistance during the race (not applicable to Family Run).
  5. For winners or potential winners wishing to appeal the results, appeals must be submitted in writing to the Result Referee at the finish area, with a deposit of HKD800 or USD100 within 30 minutes after the official result announcement. The deposit will be forfeited if the appeal is not successful or is withdrawn. The Organiser reserves the right not to entertain any dispute or appeal submitted thereafter (not applicable to Family Run).
  6. For non-winners, any disputes regarding their personal results must be submitted in writing within 7 days after the results are announced on the official Marathon website (not applicable to Family Run).
  1. Wheelchair race participants must start at the race category and start time that they have entered and have been assigned by the Organiser. Each participant shall put one of the bibs assigned visibly on the front of their chest while another one visibly on the back sole of their wheelchair.
  2. Wearing a race helmet is compulsory for all wheelchair races participants. Participants must also take the safety of other participants of the wheelchair race or any other race along the route into consideration.
  3. The Organiser reserves the right and has the authority to stop or cancel the race if a collision involving participants occurs in the first 50m of the race or any part of the race and the continuation of which may, in the Organiser’s sole opinion, affect the safety of the race or any other races on the day.
  4. Any wheelchair race participants who intentionally interferes with or comes into contact with other wheelchair race participants (or their wheelchairs) during the race will be disqualified.
  5. Only the race officials are permitted to assist a participant in case of a crash or tumble during the race. Participants will be disqualified if they are assisted in any manner that can influence the race results to their advantage.
  1. The Organiser reserves the right to reject applications of participants who violate any of the official competition rules for all future Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathons or races organised by the Organiser.
  2. In the case of discrepancies between the Chinese and English versions, the English version shall prevail. The Organiser reserves the right to interpret and amend the above rules.

Important Notice

  1. Public entry is on ballot basis. The registration period starts from 10am, on 12 September 2018, Wednesday, and ends by 7pm on 29 September 2018, Saturday. The Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association Limited (“the Organiser”) reserves the right to close entries before the deadline without notice once the race quota is full.
  2. Participants who wish to amend or enquire their personal information submitted should contact Marathon Registration and Customer Services Office at 2577 0800 (Monday to Friday 9:30am – 8:00pm; Saturday 9:30am – 1:00pm); or e-mail to [email protected].
  3. Participants are advised to solicit medical advice from medical practitioners prior to registering for and taking part in the race. Participants should have adequate preparation to ensure that they are physically fit to compete in and complete the race category they have entered.  Participants may also make reference to the Training Tips on the Marathon website and the official Facebook page.By submitting his/her application and subsequently taking part in the race, a Participant:
    • warrants and confirms to the Organiser that he/she is physically fit to take part in and complete the race without any medical or other assistance; and
    • agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Organiser from i) any injury or death suffered by the Participant himself/herself or any other persons; and ii) any damage to property as a result of him/her not being physically fit to take part in and complete the race.
  4. Public Liability Insurance is covered by the Organiser. Participants are advised to take up their own personal or other insurance policies separately, if necessary.
  1. To advocate a greener Marathon, the Organiser will send the “Runner’s Pack Collection Letter” to all successful applicants via e-mail, indicating the runner’s name, category and bib number, along with a QR-code for identification and redemption purpose.
  2. In case participants have not received their Runner’s Pack Collection Letter by 31 January 2019, please contact Marathon Registration and Customer Services Office at 2577 0800 immediately.
  3. Participants MUST collect their bib and timing chip at the designated dates, times and location as listed below (in person or via an authorised person) by presenting the Runner’s Pack Collection Letter with the designated QR-code.

  4. In order to avoid congestion and to ensure a smooth distribution, participants are strongly advised to collect their runner’s packs according to the specified date and time as indicated in the “Runner’s Pack Collection Letter”.
  5. No bibs, timing chips and souvenirs will be distributed on race day.
  1. As the race will start early in the morning (not applicable to Family Run), participants are advised to minimise the noise impact on nearby residents.
  2. Race officials will be deployed along the route for safety and other reasons. Participants must follow instructions given by the race officials during the race.
  3. Participants are strongly advised not to stop and take photos or videos near the starting arch, along the course and at the finish area, for the sake of safety.
  4. Wearing a race helmet is compulsory for all wheelchair race participants. Participants must also take the safety of other participants on the course into consideration.
  5. The Marathon course will be closed at 1:00pm and the 10KM course will be closed at 10:15am respectively to resume normal traffic. To facilitate the reopening of closed road at designated times, checkpoints will be set up at different locations along the course. Participants who fail to reach the designated checkpoints at specific times will be asked by race officials to leave the course and board the official bus to Victoria Park. Such participants must follow such request from the race officials. The Organiser reserves the right to reject applications of participants who refuse to follow the instructions of race officials for all future Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathons or races organised by the Organiser.
  6. To ensure emergency vehicles can reach the site without delay in the event of an incident, participants are reminded not to enter the Emergency Vehicle Access (EVA) during the race. Please follow instructions given by the race officials.
  7. To avoid overcrowding and accidents at the finish area, participants are required to leave the finish and the refreshment distribution area (applicable to Victoria Park only) as soon as possible. Causeway Bay Sports Ground has been designated as a meeting point for participants to meet their family and friends after the race.
  8. Spectators and general public are welcome to enter the public viewing area at Victoria Park through Gate 4 (Finish area of Family Run is at Tamar Park in Admiralty). Gates 14, 15, 16 and 17 will not be available for public access during the race.
