The race categories of Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2020 are Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km. There are other non-competitive events – 10km Wheelchair Race, 3km Wheelchair Race, Youth Dash and Kickoff Family Run – for runners of different ages to participate in this mega event and experience the joy of distance running together.
Yes. Marathon participants must have successfully completed at least one race (10km or longer) in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon or any local or overseas races within the past 3 years. Such information must be submitted upon registration.

To avoid running under humid and hot weather conditions, early starts would be favorable to distance running. Moreover, it is absolutely essential to minimize the impact to the public transport system and to ensure the courses can be resumed for normal traffic as early as possible. As races start early in the morning, participants are reminded to keep their noise level to the minimal, in order to minimize the disturbance to nearby residents.
The Organiser is working closely with public transport service providers for arranging special early services on the Race Day morning, from designated areas to the Starts in Tsim Sha Tsui and Tin Hau. Participants are reminded to check the details of the special transportation arrangement before the Race Day. The details will be announced in the "Special Transportation Arrangement" of the Race Handbook published on the Marathon website closer to the Race Day.
The objective of this arrangement is to avoid congestion caused by the variation of pace of different participants. With this allocation, every runner can race under the most favorable conditions and achieve their best.
a) An official T-shirt
Runners can choose their size of T-shirt when they make payment for their entry. Once the size of T-shirt is submitted and payment is completed, the runner cannot amend the size of T-shirt.
b) A runner’s pack
The pack includes a bib with timing chip and safety pins and baggage bag and tag. (No timing chip, baggage bag and tag will be provided for Kickoff Family Run)
c) En-route support
Banana, sports drinks and water will be provided at water stations along the course (except for Kickoff Family Run)
d) Runner’s service
Baggage deposit service, Physiotherapy services and First Aid services will be provided for runners. First Aid Stations will be set up at Start Area, at water stations along the course & at Finish Area. (except for Kickoff Family Run)
e) Finisher Medal
The medal will be given to participants who finish the race within the designated time limit of their category.
E-Certificate of Achievement/Participation will be issued to participants who finish the race within the designated time limit of their category.
Only application of withdrawal with medical reasons will be considered. Medical certificates issued by medical practitioners (Registered to The Medical Council of Hong Kong or Overseas Governmental Medical Authorities) must be submitted to the Marathon Registration and Runners’ Communication Office before Sunday 16 February 2020. An administration fee of HK$100 will be applied for the refund, the remaining entry fee will be remitted to the participant by post one month after the race. Please note that both bib and timing chip are non-transferable. You must NOT transfer your bib and the timing chip to another person for participation in the race, or both persons will be disqualified and no result will be provided.
"Priority Entry" is to facilitate the registration of runners who achieved results that meet the specific time standards (Net Time) in any designated races and period.
With an aim to enhance the race standard, in addition to the results achieved in Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2019, the Organiser also accepts results achieved by runners in other recognised races between 1 January 2018 and 31 July 2019.
Applicant can only register the race distance which is the same distance as the race of the qualifying result submitted, i.e. runner who submits the result of previous 10km race can only apply for 10km race in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2020.
Participants registered through “Priority Entry” will be assigned to Challenge Races of their respective distance (Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km) only. Other races will be opened to the general public via “Public Ballot Entry”.
Participants qualified for Priority Entry may register between 28 August 2019 (Wednesday) 10am to 5 September 2019 (Thursday) 11:59pm. Upon submitting the application, participants are required to submit the qualifying result as well.
If your qualifying result was achieved in races organised by the Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association, you may select the name of the race and input your qualifying result directly in the registration system.
If your qualifying result was achieved in races sanctioned by IAAF or AIMS, you are required to upload the supporting document of your qualifying result (i.e. Certificate with result) to the registration system for verification by the Organiser.
Supporting documents for Priority Entry must be submitted during the registration and before the registration deadline. Otherwise the entry will not be further processed and forfeited.
After verification of all Priority Entry applications, applicants will be informed of the Priority Entry result via email on Wednesday 11 September 2019 from 2pm onwards. The notification email will be sent to the e-mail address provided by the participant in the Priority Entry registration.
Successful applicants must complete the payment by 16 September 2019 (Monday) 11:59pm. Otherwise, participants will be considered as forfeiting the entry.
The public registration for 10km, Half Marathon and Marathon will continue to be on ballot basis. Runners can register for the Public Ballot Entry by submitting an online application, which contains their personal details, contact information, emergency contact details and estimated finishing time.
All runners must provide an email address when they register. Each email address and HKID / Passport number can only be used for registration ONCE.
An applicant can only submit one application for the races to be held on the same day. For example, a Kickoff Family Run participant is allowed to apply for 10km race as well, but is NOT allowed to register for another time slot of Kickoff Family Run. In case of violation, duplicate applications or registrations will be rejected or cancelled by the Organiser without prior notice. No entry fee will be refunded. Redemption of runner’s pack will not be entertained.
No. Participant can only choose the distance they want to enter, and it cannot be amended once the registration is completed. The Organiser will assign the runners in designated start time. The estimated finishing time provided by the participants in their application will be one of the criteria for the assignment of race. No request for any change to another category, race or start time will be entertained by the Organiser.
A notification message will be sent to your registered email once your application is submitted for balloting. To ensure that you will receive all correspondence from the Organiser, please be reminded to provide a valid email address when you submit the application.

1st round of the Public Ballot result will be announced at 10am on Thursday 10 October 2019 on the Marathon website. Registered runners may log into the registration system to check the result. The Organiser will also inform all registered runners of their status (successful, unsuccessful or on waiting list) via email and SMS.
The 2nd round of ballot result will be announced at 10am on Monday 22 October 2019 on the Marathon website and via email. Registrants on waiting list may log into the registration system to check the result.

Unsuccessful registrants may enroll for the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2020 through Charity Entry. The registration of Charity Entry opens at 10am on Thursday 31 October 2019 on a first-come, first-served basis, and closes at 11:59pm on Tuesday 31 December 2019. The Organiser reserves the right to close entries before the deadline without any notice, once the quota is full.
Registration and Acceptance (Public Ballot Entry, Team)
The Organiser will continue the Public Ballot Entry (Team) Arrangement this year. Accepted applicants will be assigned to 10km Run 3 or 4. Runners may join by forming a team of two to eight people and completing the online registration between 10am on Wednesday 18 September 2019 and 11:59pm on Sunday 6 October 2019.
Public Ballot Entry (Team) is divided into local teams and overseas teams. Local team MUST be consisted of local runners ONLY while Overseas team MUST be consisted of overseas runners ONLY.
Team Captains are required to "create team", set a team name and submit an application on the registration system during the registration period. Team members are required to enter the team name and Team Captain's registered email address to join the team. They will be added to the team after submitting their personal particulars.
All registered participants may login to the registration system and check the team list
Only individual results will be available for each runner entered via Public Ballot entry (team) and the Organiser will not provide any team result or awards.
1st round Public Ballot Entry (Team) result will be announced at 10am on Thursday 10 October 2019 on the Marathon website. Registered runners may log into the registration system to check the result. The Organiser will also inform team captains of their status (successful, unsuccessful or on waiting list) via email and SMS.
The 2nd round ballot (Team) result will be announced at 10am on Tuesday 22 October 2019 on the Marathon website and via email. Registrants on waiting list may log into the registration system to check the result thereafter.
Team Captains would need to settle the entry fees for the whole team in one go within the payment period. Those who fail to complete the payment procedures before the deadline will be considered as forfeiting the entry for the whole team. The payment period for Public Ballot Entry (Team) are as follows.

Registrants who fail to complete the payment within the above period will be considered as forfeiting the entry.
With an aim to uphold Physically Handicapped and Abled-Bodied (PHAB) integration, “Disability Entry” (“the Entry”) is introduced for the first time at Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2020 (with 500 reserved quotas) as a pilot arrangement. Applicants can register for Marathon, Half Marathon or 10km race (same route courses as those for the Public Ballot Entry). Race category and start time will be assigned by the Organiser.
The quotas are separately handled from the Public Ballot Entry.
Participants who wish to register via the Entry must submit a valid Registration Card for People with Disabilities issued by the HKSAR Government during the registration process. Both sides of the document must be submitted, showing the type of disability of the participants, for verification purpose.
Eligible participants may register from 10am on 18 September 2019 (Wednesday) to 11:59pm on 6 October 2019 (Sunday). Participants are required to submit a valid Registration Card for People with Disabilities (both sides) for verification purpose.
Ballot results will be announced by email starting from 2pm on 22 October 2019 (Tuesday) . Applicants may also login to the Runner Dashboard to check their application information and status.
Visually impaired runner who has successfully got a place from the Entry and completed the payment will receive a payment confirmation email with a link for he / she to register for his / her guide runner between 29 October 2019 (Tuesday) and 6 November 2019 (Wednesday).
The guide runner will be assigned to the same race as his/her visually impaired partner.
Quotas of the Youth Dash and Kickoff Family Run will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Runners can register for the Youth Dash and Kickoff Family Run by submitting an online application and completing the payment, from 10am on Thursday 26 September 2019 onwards.
Confirmation emails will be sent to applicants upon completion of payment. The Organiser reserves the right to close entries before the deadline without any notice once the quota is full.
The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon is committed to serving the community and supporting different charitable causes. The Charity Entry is open to the participants who wish to support our official beneficiaries. Applicants can choose the Marathon, Half Marathon or 10km Race in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2020.
The 2 official charities of this year's event are:
The Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled; and
The Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society
After deducting the Event entry fee, (ie Marathon HK$450, Half Marathon HK$400 and 10km HK$360), the remaining amount will be served as Charity fee and be donated to the 2 charities mentioned above evenly.
The registration of Charity Entry will open at 10am on Thursday 31 October 2019, on a first-come, first-served basis. Runners may choose to participate in Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km through Charity Entry. The registration period will end at 11:59pm on Tuesday 31 December 2019. The Organiser reserves the right to close entries before the deadline without any notice.
For participants of Wheelchair Races, medical documents, either A) a Registration Card for People with Disabilities or B) a medical certificate issued by Specialist or C) a proof issued by the Government, must be submitted upon registration. Specification of the wheelchairs used in the race must meet the “Regulation & Requirement” for the Wheelchair Races. Please refer to “Race Information” for details.
Yes. You will be provided with two baggage tags. You may deposit one baggage and one spare wheelchair on the race day morning. You may collect both at the Baggage Collection area at Victoria Park after the race.
No. All participants including the Wheelchair Races must start the race on time. Those who fail to arrive at the Start Area at the specified times will not be allowed to enter the Start Area. Please make sure you arrive at the Start Area at least 30 minutes before the Start Time.
If the damage is mild, please stay on one side of the course and fix the wheelchair before resuming the race. If the damage is severe that you are unable to continue, please seek help from Race Officials, and declare your intention to withdraw from the race.
The Race Officials will then assist you to board the official bus which will take you to the Finish Area. Your bib will be marked DNF (Did not finish). First aid treatment will be arranged if necessary. Refreshments including water and banana will be provided on board.
You are advised to leave Victoria Park via Hing Fat Street to MTR Tin Hau Station or via Causeway Road to Causeway Bay. If you have booked a rehab bus for a pick-up, they are advised to park and wait at Ngan Mok Street, Tin Hau.
The “Runner’s Pack Collection Letter” will be sent to all successful applicants via email, starting from early-January 2020. Applicants can also login to registration system via the official Marathon website to download the Collection Letter. The Collection Letter indicates the runner’s name, category and bib number, along with a QR-code for identification and redemption purpose.
If you do not receive your Runner’s Pack Collection Email by Friday 17 January 2020, please call the Marathon Hotline (852) 2577 0800 and contact the Marathon Registration and Runners’ Communication Office.
You can pick up your Runner’s Pack in person or authorise a third party to collect it for you by presenting the Runner’s Pack Collection Email (with QR code embedded) and your HKID card/passport copy at the Marathon Carnival.

Runners can authorise a representative to pick up their Runner’s Pack at the designated date and time as indicated in the email, on their behalf.
The representative must present the following documents when they pick up the Runner’s Pack at the Marathon Carnival:
A duly completed authorisation letter;
A printed copy of the Runner’s Pack Collection Email (along with the QR code); and
A copy of participant’s HKID card/passport.
If these instructions are not followed, the Runner’s Pack will not be distributed.

To work towards a greener marathon, the Organiser will not distribute hard copies of the Race Handbook at the Marathon Carnival. Participants may download the e-version on the Marathon website.
If participants would like to purchase a print copy of the Race Handbook, they may place the order during registration. The Race Handbook will be sold at HK$20/ US$3 (equivalent to HK$24) each (not applicable for Kickoff Family Run).
Please make sure you have checked the name, gender and race category printed on the bib before you leave the Marathon Carnival. Should you have any questions, please approach the officials at the Information Counter.
Participants are advised to dress in proper sportswear and running shoes for the race. The bib (with the timing chip) should be displayed near your chest and clearly visible at all times during the race to enable race officials to identify your race number.
You must bring the Bib and safety pins to the race. If you wish to deposit your belongings, please bring along the official baggage bag and baggage tag provided to you at the Marathon Carnival, and deposit it at the designated time and location according to your category. Please do not deposit valuable item(s).
The Organiser will not be responsible for any loss or damage.
Runners are advised to read the Race Handbook on the Marathon website before the Race Day.

Participants must pass the check point located at Victoria Road (outside the Fire Station) at least 30 minutes before their start time. The Organiser reserves the right to refuse late participants entering the Island East Corridor.
Yes. Cut off times will be set for each start. Participants of Wheelchair Races must start the race on time. Other race categories will be cut off 10 minutes after the scheduled start time. The access to the Start Area will be blocked by Race Officials to prevent further access of the late participants.
No. After depositing your baggage (if you require this service from the Organiser), you may proceed to the Waiting Zone directly. You will be guided to the Start Area by Race Officials 10 minutes (Marathon, Half Marathon and Wheelchair Races) / 30 minutes (10km) before the Start Time of your race. Only participants with valid bibs will be allowed to enter the Start Area, and Race Officials will be authorised to check your entry validity.
There might be queues at the baggage area, please allow sufficient time for completing baggage deposit services.
No. The start time of all races has been listed on the official Marathon website. All participants must start the race at their designated start time. Late participants will not be allowed to enter the Start Area.
No. Both bib and timing chips are non-transferable. Upon discovery of such irregularities, participants concerned will be disqualified and the Organiser (HKAAA) reserves the right to reject their applications for any future HKAAA events.
Yes, the air-quality inside the tunnel will be closely monitored during the race. The southbound tunnel will be closed from 00:45am on race day and sufficient fresh air will be pumped into the Tunnel. Air quality in the past has indicated that it is suitable for running events to be conducted inside the Tunnel.
Traffic will be shut down along the race route during the event. The Police will also cordon off associated areas for a specified period of time to allow participants to pass through in safe conditions. Only the emergency vehicles and official cars will be using the Emergency Vehicles Access (EVA) alongside with the race route. To ensure the emergency vehicles can reach the incident locations without any delay, participants should not access the EVA under any circumstance and to follow the instructions given by the race officials.
In case of emergency, the authorities and the Organiser have the absolute right to close the route, stop the race and / or alter the route without prior notice.
The elevation of the Marathon course ranges from 30 meters below sea level to 90 meters above sea level. The lowest point of the entire route will be located inside Western Harbour Tunnel and the highest point will be the Tsing Ma Bridge section.
First Aid Services will be provided by Auxiliary Medical Service. First Aid Stations will be located at the Start Area, all water stations along the routes and at the Finish Area. Ambulances will also be on stand-by along the course.
Details of the time limits and cut-off points could be found in the Event Handbook, which will be published on the Marathon website in due course.
If you are unable to reach the checkpoint within the time limit, you will be stopped by the Race Officials and asked to board the official buses. Your bib will be marked by the Race Official after boarding the bus. Refreshments including water and banana will be available on board.
Upon crossing the Finish Line, participants are advised to leave the Finish Area and refreshment collecting area as soon as possible, to avoid congestion or blockage to runners who are arriving at the Finish Line.
Meeting point in Causeway Bay Sports Ground has been designated for the convenience of those participants who would like to meet their relatives and friends after the race / collection of personal baggage.
Participants are advised to take public transport to travel to/from the Finish Area. No parking spaces are available at the venue on race day. If you need a pick-up, you may arrange the car to wait at Ngan Mok Street, Tin Hau.
For Marathon and Half Marathon, baggage deposit services will be closed 15 minutes before the Start of the race.
For Wheelchair races, baggage deposit services must be done 30 minutes before the Start of the race.
For 10km, baggage deposit services must be done 45 minutes before each Start. Baggage deposit services at Victoria Park will be closed at 7:30am. Gate 16 of Victoria Park, which is the Entrance to 10km baggage area, will be closed at 7:15am.
For Youth Dash, baggage deposit services must be done before 6:45am.

No. Pets, kids (except for Family Run), roller sneakers or any form of wheel-run objects, e.g. wheelchairs (except those Wheelchair Races athletes assigned by the Organizer), bicycles, skates, push carts etc. are straightly prohibited in the course.
Timing Chip will be attached at the back of the Bib. Bib and Timing Chip will not be distributed on the Race Day, and both of them are not transferable.
Remember to bring your Bib with Timing Chip on Race Day. Otherwise, you will not be allowed to participate in the race.
No. Each Timing Chip has a specific number which matches with the participants’ information and the matching is completed before the race. Therefore, the Timing Chip cannot be changed, exchanged or sold to other people. Otherwise, you and the transferee will both be disqualified from the race.
The list of winners will be posted on the result board at the Finish Area on Race Day. Full results of all finishers will be announced via the Marathon website at http://2020.hkmarathon.com from 9 February 2020 after 10pm.
Progress Award Certificates will be awarded to participants who completed the same race as the 2019 race and distance but with better times. E-Certificates for qualified runners will be uploaded to the official website after the race.
Permanent Residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region shall be persons who are qualified to obtain Hong Kong Permanent Identity Cards in accordance with the Basic Law Chapter III, Article 24 of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
The Prize Presentation Ceremony will commence at the Finish Area (Victoria Park) starting from 7:30 am onwards on the Race Day of 9 February 2020. All awarded winners will be invited to receive their prizes.
Winners must report to the race officials 20 minutes before the commencement of the prize presentation ceremony at the Winners Booth located at the Finish Area (Victoria Park). If winners fail to attend the Prize Presentation Ceremony on time, he/she will not be allowed to redeem his/her prize after event.
For prize winners or potential prize winners who wish to dispute the results, a written appeal must be submitted to the Result Referee at the Finish Area, with a deposit of HKD$800 or USD$100 within 30 minutes after the official announcement of the results. The deposit will not be refunded if the appeals are not successful. The Organizer reserves the right not to entertain any dispute or appeal submitted thereafter.
For non-winners, any disputes regarding their personal results must be submitted in written form within 3 days of the announcement of the results on the Marathon website.
Public Liability Insurance is covered by the Organiser. Participants are advised to take up their own personal or other insurance policies separately, if necessary. The Organiser suggests to the participants to have a thorough health assessment before signing up for the race and choose a suitable race distance based on their body condition. Please consult your doctor before taking part in the race, if you have any doubts.
Yes. Public viewing areas are located at Victoria Park. Spectators may enter the area through Gate 3 & 4. During the Race, spectators cannot enter Victoria Park via Gate 14, 15, 16 or 17. (Please refer to the map of the Finish Area in the Race Handbook for details.)
